liz allen photographyPhotographs are an important part of any business, however it can be difficult to find a talented photographer who will showcase your business how you see it.  Liz Allen with Liz Allen Photography has been a marketing lifesaver for many businesses in the Minneapolis metro area.  As one of our newest IMS members, I’m excited to showcase Liz and her business this week.

Liz focuses her photography business on headshots for businesses, seniors, family photos, and business photos to be used in marketing materials.  A photo session with Liz isn’t your typical session.  Conversation flows and you immediately feel comfortable, which shines through to your pictures.  Liz is excited and passionate about her work, not afraid to put the extra effort in to get a great shot, and very open to her client’s ideas.  Clients constantly tell Liz that they never like pictures of themselves, and time after time Liz proves them wrong.  In fact, clients love their photos so much they have a hard time choosing just one photo!

When I met Liz, she was unfamiliar to the concept of a barter exchange, like many of my clients initially are. When you do work within the barter exchange, you earn barter dollars.  Those dollars can then be spent with any of the many other businesses and services within the IMS Barter exchange.  Once I explained the concept to Liz, she jumped at the chance.  Since many of her photo shoots are with businesses, she can allow them to pay using barter dollars.  However, Liz doesn’t necessarily have to spend her barter dollars with that business.  In fact, Liz is banking up her barter dollars as she plans to use the exchange as much as possible to assist in building her and her family a home they will be absolutely enamored with.

Karlynn began her career as a professional dancer and dance teacher in New York and Las Vegas after graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance from Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri.  After receiving an injury, which resulted in necessary chiropractic care, Karlynn found a new calling in life and earned her D.C. from Northwestern College of chiropractic in 1992.  Taking a well-rounded approach in over all health, Karlynn focuses her practice on women’s health issues, pregnancy, and children.  In 2006, she was recognized and awarded as being one of the best chiropractors in the Guide To America’s Top Chiropractors.

Karlynn runs her practice out of Skyline Chiropractic in Burnsville, MN.  As a Doctor of Chiropractic since 1992, Karlynn has been using barter in her business for the past 20 years.  Although familiar with barter, IMS is the first barter network she has been a part of.  She loves the concept of having a large inventory of businesses to choose from, now, in which she can put her barter dollars to good use.  Karlynn also looks forward to IMS helping her find patients to add to her practice.  In fact, within the first couple of days of joining the barter group, she received a new client via IMS!

Who is the Barter Guy and what can he do for me?

Often times when you join a barter exchange you are left on your own to find the products and services you need. Sometimes this is easy but often times it’s not. If you need a computer repair person you probably have several to choose from but one might be more suited to your particular problem than another. It is often very helpful and time saving to have someone to guide you in your search.

The real benefit of the Barter guy though comes when you need something that is not currently available in the barter group. He may often be able to find it for you. Here is a great example of that. One of our members sells welding supplies. They needed a display rack to properly exhibit their products and no current member could provide it . The Barter Guy was able to find a custom metal fabricator to join the barter group and make the display racks. Problem solved.

The story gets better though. The metal fabricator makes several products of their own. One is a baseball pitching machine. He needed someone to take photographs of the machines to use on their websites and to give to their distributors. There were several photographers in the exchange but not one that was proficient in taking good quality product shots. The Barter Guy was again able to find just what was needed. A great photographer that was also a master video producer.

The end result was that the custom metal fabricator got the photographer he needed and the barter exchange got a new member that produces high quality videos for a number of websites. Another added benefit was that the metal fabricator/ pitching machine producer was able to sell a number of machines to totally new customers and generate additional profits to pay for the pictures and other needed services.
